AK Front sight

AK Front sightDepending on tactical conditions preparation of initial data for shooting can be made beforehand or directly on the purposes. In battle conditions preparation of the data directly on the purpose is usually conducted in the shortest terms. Sight mechanisms serve this purpose.

Front sight is a unit of a mechanical sight mechanism of small arms. This AK part is situated on a weapon trunk. The AK front sight can have different construction (open, closed) concluded in a ring or in a semi-ring. The ring protects a front sight from mechanical damages. It also shades it and makes it more discernible at an aiming.

Forms of aiming slots and front sights are defined by demands of accuracy, quickness and convenience of an aiming. There are following forms of front sights in small arms: triangular, trapezoid, rectangular. Aiming slots of AK sights are divided into triangular, rectangular, demicircular and dioptric.

All forms of front sights can combine with any of aiming slots, but the rectangular one with a ball at an apex combines only with the dioptric sight, and triangular - only with a triangular slot. Experience shows that the shooting accuracy depends on the whole from the degree of proficiency of marksman in using of slot and a front sight of this or that form. But at the same time at equal proficiency of marksmen the best results on a close pattern of shooting are attained at using a narrow rectangular front sight in a combination with a demicircular slot. It explains their wide spreading in modern samples of the weapon.
